At the end of this year, some Visa and Mastercard cards in Russia will have their security certificates expire.
This may result in difficulties with some payments.
According to information from RBC , mass transactions will most likely not be affected, but there may be problems with deferred payments.
Deputy President of VTB Georgy Gorshkov noted that a card with an expired certificate will not become useless.
The validity period of the certificate is one of the factors that the bank takes into account when accepting the card for payment.
He added that tests are currently being conducted with such cards to resolve the issue.
Gorshkov compared the current situation to how two years ago banks cancelled the expiration date of cards, and no problems arose.
