Fraudsters have begun to actively promote a new way of deceiving Russians.
The scheme involves gift cards that can supposedly be purchased for half price.
The scammers look for potential victims on social networks and messengers, where they actively send out messages about the supposedly unique opportunity, Izvestia writes.
Fraudsters offer Russians to purchase gift cards worth 5,000 rubles with a 50% discount.
Those who believe in this and transfer money lose not only 2500 rubles.
When making a payment, fraudsters take possession of the victim's bank details and can steal all the money stored on the card.
And of course, there will be no gift card.
Therefore, experts urge people to remain vigilant and ignore tempting but dubious offers that appear online.
In Telegram, for example, scammers use a fake bot that massively distributes information about the opportunity to “profitably” purchase a gift card.
For any promotions, you should contact the store or establishment directly to find out more.
Fraudsters also target Russians who like to shop at bargain prices during sales.
