As a result, representatives of large taxi companies are asking the authorities to move the deadline for issuing compulsory motor insurance from September.
Today, 2.5 million people work as taxi drivers in Russia. One and a half million are self-employed, the rest work with taxi companies.
Of all the self-employed, only 21 thousand people (1.4% of the total) have a permit to work as a taxi driver.
The situation in taxi companies is a little better – 600 thousand people have all the documents, but most of them work in Moscow or the region.
Thus, only 25% of taxi drivers can obtain compulsory motor third party liability insurance.
Experts believe that postponing the deadlines for processing all documents could prevent future problems in this area.
Otherwise, the first signs of a shortage of taxi drivers in the Russian Federation may appear as early as autumn.
