In Russia they want to restrict the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products to those born after December 31, 2009.

The Ministry of Health sent the draft bill to the relevant departments to support the document with revisions.

The draft of the recall of the Cabinet of Ministers is being worked out with the interested authorities and has not yet been sent to the government, writes Kommersant .

A number of departments do not support the introduction of the ban, proposing to revise the document.

The Ministry of Finance points to a contradiction with the Constitution of the Russian Federation, according to which a citizen over 18 years of age is not limited in his rights.

The ministry believes that this ban could cause a surge in the consumption of illegal products.

The bill is generally in line with state anti-smoking policy. Similar measures are being considered in other European countries.

It is also indicated that if the document is implemented, the budget may lose about 7 billion rubles in excise taxes in 2028.

However, the costs of treating smoking-related diseases may also decrease.
