From the beginning of 2025, Russia plans to increase fines for traffic violations.
The changes are set out in the draft amendments to the Code of Administrative Offences, which will be reviewed by a government commission on November 18.
The fine for driving without a seat belt may increase from 1,000 to 1,500 rubles, the Vedomosti article emphasizes.
In the case of drunk driving or handing over control to a person in a state of alcoholic intoxication, the fine will increase from 30,000 to 45,000 rubles.
The penalty for speeding may also be toughened. If the fine for this violation is currently from 500 to 5,000 rubles, then in the future it may be increased to 750–7,500 rubles.
The same changes will be applied for ignoring road signs and markings.
In addition, it is proposed to extend the period of validity of the discount on payment of fines from 20 to 30 days.
The introduction of new measures is aimed at reducing accidents and strengthening discipline on the roads.
