Experts from the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Agriculture are considering the issue of importing potatoes from countries friendly to the Russian Federation.
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev announced this.
He stated that such measures have become relevant against the backdrop of growing demand, TASS reports.
The authorities' attention is focused on increasing potato production, as well as increasing purchases from friendly countries.
Patrushev said that he had asked two agencies to consider the issue of importing potatoes from friendly countries to meet demand for potatoes.
In 2023, Russia received a record potato harvest – more than 8.5 million tons.
This year, too, a high harvest is expected, but not as much as last year. Experts predict that the total volume will be 7.3 million tons.
Patrushev added that Russia has developed measures aimed at supporting domestic farmers. This is a special federal project.
