Dmitry Peskov responded to rumors that European auto brands are returning to Russia.
Vladimir Putin's press secretary commented on reports that BMW, Audi, Volkswagen and other EU brands are planning to return to Russia.
A Kremlin spokesman said that Moscow is not aware of official statements that European automakers intend to return to Russia, TASS reports.
Peskov stressed that Japan’s decision to lift the ban on imports of “soft hybrids” to Russia was dictated by pragmatism and the interests of Tokyo, not Europe.
He noted that many states adopt restrictions that stem from their personal interests.
“Everything here is absolutely cynical and pragmatic – they do what is beneficial to them,” Peskov emphasized.
The Kremlin spokesman added that competition plays a positive role in the context of lower prices.
For the Kremlin, the interests of domestic consumers play a primary role.
It is important for Moscow that citizens receive quality goods without overpaying for them.
Peskov stated that the state must do everything to achieve this goal.
