By a court decision, the multi-billion dollar assets of former State Duma deputy Sergei Sopchuk were converted to the state's benefit.
We are talking about 79 objects of movable and immovable property. The total value of the assets of the politician who fled the Russian Federation was estimated at more than 41 billion rubles.
The court made a decision on confiscation based on materials provided by the FSB, TASS reports.
Sopchuk, 60, is a defendant in a criminal case. He is suspected of illegal participation in business activities and money laundering.
He left Russia in the summer of 2021 and is still on the international wanted list. According to the latest information, he is hiding in the UAE.
Sopchuk took up his parliamentary post in 2016 and enjoyed immunity until the end of his term.
In addition, his political biography includes the positions of Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Primorsky Krai and First Vice-Governor (2007–2008) of this region.
