"It's just the beginning": red caviar will become even more expensive by the New Year

In the Russian Federation, there is a surge in demand for red caviar ahead of the New Year holidays.

Prices for this product have been rising rapidly since September of this year.

But this is “only the beginning,” economist Tatyana Suvorova said in an interview with the Prime agency.

The expert said that the average price for this product in the Russian Federation has increased by 15% compared to 2023.

Before that, the prices were in the range of 6,000–7,500 rubles per 1 kg. But in September, the product already cost 7,000–8,500 rubles per kilogram.

Since then, prices for red caviar have continued to rise. There is still plenty of time left before the holidays, but 1 kg of the product already costs 10 thousand rubles in some stores.

The economist stressed that “there has never been such growth before.”

Suvorova explained why red caviar is becoming more expensive at a record high.

First of all, this is due to the high level of inflation.

In addition, the decrease in the catch in 2024 played a role. The indicator fell by 3 times compared to 2023.

Production costs also rose, which ultimately pushed prices up.

It is logical to expect that the prices for red caviar will grow even more. After all, this product becomes more expensive before the New Year holidays, the economist noted.
