Latvia and Lithuania have prevented the adoption of another package of anti-Russian sanctions.
The issue was discussed the day before. Ambassadors of the European Union countries took part in the discussion.
The fifteenth package of sanctions against Russia was not approved on December 6 because Latvia and Lithuania did not agree to some of the conditions, Politico reports.
This was the third attempt to agree on a 15th package of restrictions. But politicians still hope that they will be able to reach an agreement before the end of 2024.
Previously, it was reported that the ambassadors of two EU states spoke out against the restrictive measures.
The reason given was the unwillingness to extend the deadlines given to European companies to withdraw their investments from Russia.
The aim of the 15th package of sanctions is a political and economic blow to tankers that transport oil from the Russian Federation in defiance of previously imposed restrictions.
