The IMF explained the current situation in the Russian economy.
According to the International Monetary Fund, the Russian economy is showing a tendency to overheat.
This opinion was voiced by the Director of the IMF European Department, Alfred Kammer, RIA Novosti reports.
As the expert noted at the organization's press conference in Washington, the Russian economy is currently facing difficulties. In particular, it is hampered by capacity restrictions, which is why it is starting to overheat.
The IMF has adjusted its forecast for Russia's potential GDP growth, based on the sanctions pressure being exerted on the country.
It is noted that the IMF previously predicted a 3.6% increase in the Russian economy in 2024. However, forecasts for 2025 remain less positive: the agency believes that the GDP will grow by only 1.3%.
On Thursday, forecasts for 2026 were published. According to the IMF, a slowdown in private consumption and investment will lead to the country's GDP remaining at 1.2% with inflation at 4%.
