A new scam has come to light, which is being carried out by fraudsters in order to illegally obtain money.
They intimidate Russians with fines for visiting prohibited websites on Russian territory.
“Fraudsters have come up with a new way to get rich,” Yuri Bastrykin, head of the information security department at PGR agency, told the Prime agency.
He shared that Russians are being intimidated for visiting banned websites on Russian territory in order to extort money.
Bastrykin said that the fraudsters’ scam is based on existing prohibitions.
However, there are no actual fines, but not everyone knows this.
Users receive messages about fines after visiting sites where scammers have managed to make the appropriate settings.
According to Bastrykin, users who do not understand the laws are easily taken in by the fraudsters’ new tricks.
They readily believe that they could have inadvertently violated something.
The expert advises blocking and ignoring these messages in the future.
