The Izvestia news outlet has published information according to which scammers have begun using a new fraudulent scheme.
In particular, criminals began calling Russians and introducing themselves as utility workers.
The Izvestia newspaper writes: “Very often, scammers say that they are calling from Mosenergo and Mosenergosbyt, and then offer to conduct an inspection.”
At the same time, scammers can convince the victim to take out a loan in their name.
Precautionary measures
In carrying out their scams, criminals very often trick their victims into giving them access to their State Services account.
After this, the scammers have the opportunity to appropriate other people’s money.
It is emphasized that this kind of fraud first began to be monitored by law enforcement agencies in the summer of 2024.
In June, law enforcement officers opened a number of criminal cases in response to citizens' complaints about fraud committed against them.
