The key rate may be frozen at the current level until at least the end of the first quarter.
This opinion was shared by Mikhail Gordienko, professor of the Department of Sustainable Development Finance at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
He stated in a conversation with the Prime agency that the current rate of 21 percent could turn out to be the maximum.
By February, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation will assess the real situation in the economy against the backdrop of inflation and credit activity.
If lending slows and prices rise, the regulator may decide to ease monetary policy.
At the same time, Gordienko emphasized that the sudden freezing of the rate is probably connected with macroeconomic factors and pressure from supporters of easing.
The bank will ease the rate in February if it receives positive signals about inflation.
According to Gordienko, the current rate of 21 percent will be the maximum only if the issue of personnel, logistics and payments is resolved.
