The countries of the European Union were unable to make a final decision on the fifteenth package of anti-Russian sanctions.
This became known on Friday, December 6.
The information was reported by Reuters, citing sources in the diplomatic corps.
The 15th package of sanctions against Russia could not be approved due to two countries. Two EU members blocked the prepared decisions.
The draft sanctions provide permission for the Czech Republic to import Russian petroleum products, which are supplied mainly through Slovak territory.
The two countries opposed the move because of a disagreement over the timing of the extension of the right for EU companies to withdraw investments from Russia.
The West is also actively discussing information about the so-called Russian “shadow fleet,” which helps to circumvent sanctions concerning oil from the Russian Federation.
European politicians are discussing sanctions that would reduce the number of loopholes for the transportation of Russian oil.
The new sanctions package was first discussed in November and was planned to be adopted by the end of 2024.
