Two European Union countries have been named as highly dependent on nickel supplies from Russia.
Despite the political confrontation, the EU's need for resources from Russia remains.
Finland and Estonia have been named the most dependent on nickel from Russia, RIA Novosti reports, citing information from the UN Comtrade platform for the first half of 2024.
Russia is Finland's main supplier of nickel. The EU country imported $335.7 million worth of it in January-June. This is 88.4% of the total purchase volume.
Estonia came in second place. This country purchased nickel for $1.5 million (44.1% of the total volume).
Other EU countries continue to buy Russian nickel. The Czech Republic imported $14.4 million (7.7%) of this resource.
Germany was also among the buyers of Russian nickel. The FRG purchased it for $80.1 million (7.4%).
Bulgaria, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Poland, Latvia, Spain, Slovakia, and Denmark also continue to buy this metal from Russia.
Outside the EU, Russian nickel is purchased by Japan and South Korea.
