Economist Inna Litvinenko believes that the Central Bank will raise the key rate at least two more times in 2024.
During the July meeting, the regulator will announce an increase in the rate to 18%, and in September – to 20%.
Litvinenko shared this forecast in a conversation with the publication " Abzats ". The upcoming rate hike is indicated by statistics on inflation and deposits.
The Bank of Russia warned that it would not abandon its tight monetary policy until inflation was curbed and reduced to an optimal level (4%).
The end of summer, according to the economist’s forecast, also does not provide grounds for lowering the rate.
At the beginning of the school year, demand for real estate and cars increases, and companies sum up the preliminary results of the year and pay out bonuses.
Litvinenko believes that on September 13 the key rate in the Russian Federation will reach 20%.
Other economists surveyed by the publication also believe that the Central Bank will raise the key rate to at least 18%.
Other reasons cited include the “overheating” of the economy – GDP is growing rapidly, and supply cannot keep up with demand.
