Dates for the start of construction of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway have been announced

Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit said when construction of the high-speed railway (HSR) will begin.

The head of the department reported that preparatory work will begin as early as 2024.

Starovoit said that on Friday, July 19, the government held its first meeting after signing the concession agreement on the construction of the Navy, TASS reports.

At this stage, the authorities determine the form of project management and form a project office based on the Cabinet of Ministers.

In addition, the route and location of transfer hubs are currently being clarified. These are important issues, since passenger traffic, convenience and safety will depend on the decisions taken.

Moscow – Saint Petersburg High Speed Railway

The project is part of Russia’s transport strategy, developed until 2030.

The high-speed rail will allow passengers to travel from Moscow to St. Petersburg in 2 hours and 15 minutes. From the capital to Tver it will be possible to travel in 39 minutes, and from St. Petersburg to Veliky Novgorod in 29 minutes.

The project includes 16 stops. Trains will run every 10-15 minutes. The first of them should be on the line by 2028.

The project is expected to be fully completed by 2030. The high-speed railway will carry trains with a speed exceeding 250 km/h. The total length of the route is 679 km.
