Analysts expect the key rate to increase to 18%

The Central Bank will raise the key rate to 18% at its meeting on July 26, analysts predict.

Market participants agree that at the next meeting, the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation may raise the key rate by 2 percentage points.

The Izvestia newspaper reported this, citing interviewed analysts.

Experts have predicted the implementation of the above scenario with a high degree of probability.

According to forecasts, a more rapid increase in the rate, up to 20 percent, cannot be ruled out.

Analysts also expect a possible rate hike by the Central Bank leadership to 17-18 percent.

Experts say that one of the probable reasons for the tightening of monetary policy is a significant upward deviation of inflation from the regulator’s forecast.

The situation is influenced by rising wages, stable demand from the population, a decrease in imports, and problems with payments.
