Pizza is rightfully considered one of the most popular and delicious dishes in the world.
And many countries have always strived to set a world record for making the largest pizza in the world.
Italy, which is the home of this dish, has long tried to take the top spot in this ranking. And in 2012, it finally managed to beat the previous world record and bake the largest pizza in the world.
The pizza was prepared on the Apennine Peninsula and was named "Ottavia" in honor of the first Roman emperor.
Just imagine: it took the famous Italian chef and his five assistants two days to bake a dish with a diameter of 43 meters and an area of 1208 square meters!
The pizza is also striking in the scale of the products used to make it.
In making Ottavia, the chefs spent:
- 8 tons of flour;
- 9 tons of Mozzarella cheese;
- 4 tons of tomato puree;
- 680 kilograms of margarine;
- 190 kilograms of olive oil;
- 23 kilograms of balsamic vinegar.
As a result, the weight of the finished dish was about 16 tons.
Of course, there is no oven to make a dish of this size, so the record-breaking pizza was made from 5,234 individual pieces, which were joined together at the end.
