Tastier than store-bought: how to make ketchup at home — a chef shares a recipe

Store-bought ketchups do not always have a pleasant taste and healthy ingredients.

This is why many people start looking for a recipe on how to make this popular seasoning at home.

Culinary expert of TUT NEWS, chef and fourth-class baker Yulia Arkhipova will tell you how to make a sauce using a minimum of ingredients.

Homemade Ketchup Recipe

To prepare, you will need ripe tomatoes and other ingredients, the amount of which will depend on the volume of the base.

For every three glasses of tomato sauce you will need:

  • 1 cup sugar;
  • half a glass of vinegar;
  • 2 teaspoons salt;
  • 1 teaspoon each of dried onion and garlic.

Preparation

Cut the tomatoes into quarters, place in a saucepan and boil for 20 minutes.

Remove the pulp (pits and skins) to get a pure tomato base, which will then need to be simmered for 2-3 hours over low heat. The result should be a ketchup consistency.

Add the remaining ingredients in the proportions indicated above.

Pour the ketchup into jars, each of which should then be boiled for 35-40 minutes.
