On “those days” you involuntarily want something especially tasty, invigorating and calming.
But following the principles of healthy and proper nutrition during menstruation is especially important so that the body does not encounter various "side effects" such as swelling, acne, lethargy and drowsiness.
So, which products should be given priority, and which ones should be completely forgotten for a week or two?
Let's start with the food that will only do harm during menstruation. Of course, the first will be all sorts of sweets. Eating candies, cakes, ice cream during "critical days" will not only cause weight gain, but also provoke a rash of pimples on the face and body.
In second place are salty, smoked and spicy foods. Hormonal fluctuations during menstruation increase the risk of such an unpleasant thing as edema, and the salt contained in pickles, chips, chicken wings from fast food chains contributes to this by retaining water in the tissues.
If you don’t want to wake up in the morning with a swollen face and have difficulty freeing your feet from your shoes after a day at work, remove from your diet anything that contains a lot of salt for a few days.
The third type of food that is best excluded from your diet during your period is fast food and fatty foods. Fried potatoes, hamburgers, nuggets, pizza, as already mentioned, can contain excess salt. They can also contain trans fats, which are harmful to hormonal balance.
Because of these trans fats, the production of estrogens decreases, the lack of which will only increase pain and worsen overall well-being.
The fourth product that falls into the group of forbidden during menstruation is coffee. Of course, you don’t have to give it up completely, but you should reduce the number of cups you drink.
Why? Girls during their "critical days" already become very irritable, nervous and excitable, and coffee excites the nervous system even more. In addition, excess caffeine can cause headaches. You should also not abuse bars and other drinks containing caffeine.
And the fifth product is alcohol. Alcohol dehydrates the body, which can make cramps in the lower abdomen much more painful, and drinking alcohol has a negative effect on the quality of sleep. If you don’t want to suffer from pain and fall off your feet from sleepiness during the day, avoid parties and feasts or drink only clean water at them.
What then can and should be eaten when the "guests in red cars" have arrived? Since during menstruation a girl loses on average about 50 milliliters of blood, this blood loss needs to be replenished and the iron level in the blood raised.
And such products as beef liver, beef tongue, apples, buckwheat porridge will help with this. And for better absorption of iron, it is necessary to increase the proportion of animal proteins due to eggs, fish, chicken or turkey meat.
Fruits, in addition to apples, should also be eaten to maintain normal digestion and saturate the body with vitamins.
Chicory can be used as a substitute for invigorating coffee, and instead of store-bought sweets, it is better to consume dried fruits and dark chocolate in small quantities.
To relax muscles and calm nerves, magnesium, which is abundant in pumpkin seeds and nuts, will come in handy, and herbal teas with valerian, mint and lemon balm will ensure a deep and healthy sleep.
