Avocado is a fruit, but it is sometimes called a vegetable. It is used as a main dish or a side dish.
Expert studies have shown that people who ate at least half an avocado a day weighed 7 kg less at the end of the test than people who did not include this fruit in their diet. But how is this possible?
One possible explanation is that when you eat avocados, you feel full thanks to the healthy monounsaturated fats (fatty acids).
Further studies have shown that adding avocado to regularly consumed foods increases the nutritional value of the dish. It turns out that this “miracle fruit” can also protect us from overeating.
Avocados should also be eaten by nursing and pregnant women.
In addition to the mentioned healthy fat, avocado also contains antioxidants that help us maintain a stable body weight. In addition, the vitamins it contains are excellent protection against various viruses and inflammations.
This was confirmed by another interesting test. One group of people ate hamburgers without avocado, and the other half - with avocado.
It was later found that those who consumed this avocado treat later produced fewer inflammatory substances. Overall, its use is beneficial for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Avocado also regulates cholesterol levels in the body and lowers blood pressure. It is also recommended for nervous diseases, liver problems and urinary tract inflammation.
What vitamins are in avocado
In addition, regular consumption of avocados will provide you with a sufficient source of other beneficial substances. It contains fiber and about 20 other essential nutrients, including vitamins E and K, magnesium and potassium. In addition, avocados significantly increase the absorption of some fat-soluble antioxidants and vitamins.
Of course, we are not encouraging you to eat only avocados now. Try to include other healthy foods in your diet more often, such as nuts, various seeds or olives. It is always useful to provide the body with a wider range of nutrients.
How to recognize a ripe avocado
A person who is not used to eating avocados may not know how to properly recognize a ripe avocado. Recognizing ripeness by color can be confusing because there are green and black varieties of this fruit on the market.
The easiest way is to learn to recognize ripeness by lightly pressing: a hard avocado is unripe, a slightly soft fruit is already ripe and ready to eat.
Unripe avocados are not poisonous to humans, but we should not feed them to animals as they may become poisoned.
How to Store Avocados
The best way to ripen an avocado is to wrap it in paper or put it in a paper bag. Let the avocado lie in the shade and at room temperature. The fruit ripens within five days. We can speed up the ripening process by adding another fruit to the avocado.
Store the already opened avocado in a box in the refrigerator. To keep it fresh, it is recommended to sprinkle the cut side with lemon juice. Another option is to put onion strips on the bottom of the box, and then place the avocado on them, cut side up.
How to eat avocado
So now we know that avocados are really healthy. But how do you eat avocados? You only eat the inside of an avocado, you don't eat the skin.
So first we cut the avocado in half with a knife. Inside there is a large hard stone, which we go around with a knife to easily separate the two halves. We simply pull the pit out of the ripe fruit.
Avocado can be eaten without any additional preparation. It can be cut out with a spoon, like a kiwi. Salt, lime juice or balsamic vinegar are used as a flavoring.
Avocado pastes, various cocktails, salads, soups and puddings are very popular. It is also popular as a sauce. This fruit is also popular baked with other ingredients.
However, avocado is also used in cosmetics, various face masks or oils for dry skin are made from it. In addition, avocado oil helps with fatigue and improves our overall immunity. It is also an excellent preventative for cardiovascular diseases.
