Kutia has long been a traditional and main dish on the Russian Christmas table.
If you want to learn how to cook porridge the way our ancestors did, then write down the recipe.
Ingredients
To prepare traditional kutia you will need:
- 1 cup wheat;
- 100 grams of poppy seeds;
- 150 grams of raisins;
- 3-4 tablespoons of honey;
- a pinch of salt.
The main condition is that the finished wheat should be soft, but should not fall apart.
To do this, you need to soak it overnight, drain the water in the morning and pour new water over the porridge so that it covers the grains by 2-3 centimeters.
Cook the wheat for 1.5-2 hours over low heat, adding salt beforehand.
Poppy seeds must be poured with boiling water and left for 20 minutes, after which they must be ground in a makitra, a special container designed for this purpose.
Raisins should be poured with boiling water and left for 15 minutes, then drain the water.
All ingredients are mixed together and the kutia is ready. It is recommended to serve the porridge chilled.
