Frozen foods cannot be stored forever.
Otherwise, moisture will be lost, texture will deteriorate, odor and rancidity may occur.
Andrey Dorokhov, a candidate of chemical sciences and associate professor of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at RTU MIREA, warned about this in an interview with Life.ru.
He explained that a whole chicken can be frozen for up to 12 months, while pieces can last no more than nine.
Otherwise, the meat will lose moisture, develop a smell and become rancid.
Dorokhov reminded that beef and lamb should be stored for up to a year, pork – no more than six months.
The minced meat will remain fresh if stored for no more than four months.
Products that are kept in the freezer for a long time become covered with crystals that damage their structure.
Also, the gradual oxidation of fats will affect the taste of finished dishes.
