For various reasons, you may end up with an unripe pumpkin on your hands.
The question arises whether the vegetable should be thrown away or whether it is better to process it somehow.
Culinary expert of TUT NEWS, chef and fourth-class baker Yulia Arkhipova will tell you what you can do with unripe pumpkin.
Can you eat unripe pumpkin?
When you find yourself with an unripe pumpkin in your hands, there are two options.
While the vegetable is not cut yet, it is definitely not worth throwing it away. In this case, the pumpkin should be left in a warm and light place for a couple of months.
This is exactly how long it takes for an early-picked vegetable to ripen.
However, if you have already cut up the pumpkin, then it needs to be processed.
If the pulp of the vegetable is green, it is definitely not ripe yet. However, it can be eaten.
Unripe pumpkin can be used to make both salty and sweet dishes. It can be used to make casseroles, baked as a side dish, or made into sweets with quince, raisins, etc.
If the pumpkin skin is green and the flesh is orange, then the fruit is almost ripe. Therefore, it can be eaten without fear.
