Can You Eat Pickled Cucumbers with a White Coating: Not Everyone Knows

You've probably noticed that a white coating may appear in a jar of salted or pickled cucumbers from time to time.

This phenomenon can be both safe for health and indicate the appearance of mold.

Culinary expert of HERE NEWS, chef and fourth-class baker Yulia Arkhipova will tell you how to understand this phenomenon.

White coating in a jar of cucumbers: reasons

If you notice that cucumbers are covered with a white coating, then most often the reason lies in non-compliance with the technology of their preparation. For example, this happens if the vegetables were poorly washed or air got into the jar.

If the cucumbers were pickled only with salt and water, then the white coating is sediment.

If the coating has appeared on the cucumbers and you are sure that the canning process was done correctly, then the vegetables can be eaten, after washing them before use.

However, when a white coating appears on lightly salted cucumbers, it is nothing more than mold. In this case, cucumbers cannot be eaten, as this is fraught with botulism.
