What is a “superfood”? A superfood is a nutritious and healthy food.

It is this type of food that makes up the main part of the diet of people leading a healthy lifestyle.

Superfoods usually include chia seeds, goji berries and, of course, avocado. This exotic Mexican fruit has been known for quite some time, but in recent years it has been gaining more and more popularity.

Avocado has appeared in the form of toys, prints on all kinds of clothes, on phone cases. But is this fruit really that healthy?

Interesting fact: contrary to popular belief, avocado is neuter. It is still an “it”!

Benefits and harms of avocado

Avocado is rich in vitamins and microelements. It contains potassium, phosphorus, sodium, calcium, manganese, magnesium, folic acid.

Fat-soluble vitamins are absorbed twice as well thanks to this fruit. It also contains a lot of vitamins A, B, C, D, E, but there are no harmful fats.

Avocado lowers blood pressure, strengthens hair and nails, and generally improves the health of the body. It is really very useful, but you need to know the pitfalls of the "alligator pear".

• The avocado seed is poisonous. If eaten, it can cause severe poisoning;
• It is better to eat avocado raw. After heat treatment it will become bitter;
• Although it is undoubtedly a superfood, those who are losing weight should eat avocado with caution - it is high in calories, and this can negatively affect your figure. It is recommended to eat no more than half a day;
• Like any new product, it can cause allergies. Avocado should be added to the diet gradually;
• When exposed to air, it begins to darken.

So, we can say with complete confidence that, with the exception of a couple of minor points, this fruit is worthy of being part of the diet of almost every person.

How to choose an avocado

There are several varieties of avocado - Pinkerton, Ettinger, Fuerte and Hass. They differ in the size of the fruit, the pit, the color of the skin, and also the shape. The most common in Russia is Hass (it is also mistakenly called "haas"), named after Rudolf Hass, who grew it. It is distinguished by its rough skin from green to dark brown. Ripe Hass will be dark, a little soft (but not crumbly!) and will easily lie for several days in the refrigerator, waiting for its time.

However, sometimes the store simply doesn’t have ripe fruit, but, let’s say, you really want a shrimp salad.

In this case, you can safely take an unripe fruit and leave it at room temperature in a paper bag for two days; it will ripen at home.

You can't leave the avocado in the sun - it will lose its beneficial properties. As soon as the alligator pear is ripe (darkened and soft), you can prepare the salad!

Shrimp and Avocado Salad:
• Large shrimps – 15 pcs;
• Avocado - 1 pc;
• Cucumber - 1 pc;
• Tomato - pcs;
• Greens - 1 bunch;
• Olive oil - 3 tbsp;
• Lemon juice - 1 tbsp.

Chop the greens, combine with lemon juice and oil. Boil the shrimp, cut the avocado and vegetables. Combine everything and serve. A delicious and very healthy salad is ready!
