Improper consumption of alcoholic beverages on New Year's Eve can ruin the holiday for many Russians.

This was stated by psychiatrist and narcologist Maria Kasperovich.

In a conversation with NEWS.ru , she spoke in detail about how to drink alcohol correctly so as not to suffer from a hangover on January 1.

The narcologist explained that alcohol should be drunk at intervals so that the body has time to process ethanol without overload.

She also advises against switching from strong drinks to weaker ones. This is because the absorption of strong alcohol can be slower.

However, if you drink alcohol in moderation, the sequence will not matter.

Vodka is traditionally paired with sour-salty and hearty snacks, wine with light dishes. Fruit, chocolate and crackers go well with champagne.

Kasperovich warned against eating fatty foods, which slow down the processing of alcohol, putting a strain on the liver.

She categorically does not recommend mixing vodka with beer, cola or energy drinks, so as not to suffer from a hangover the next day.

The doctor also reminded that combining wine with strong drinks will provoke a deterioration in health.

To avoid getting drunk quickly, you should definitely eat a hearty meal rich in protein before the feast.

Kasperovich also said it's important to drink water when drinking alcohol, but avoid soda.

To avoid poisoning and hangover, you should not drink alcohol on an empty stomach.
