Interior: tips for a small room

Not everyone is lucky enough to live in a spacious apartment.

But even a small room can be furnished so that it will be more spacious and comfortable.

We figure out how to expand space, add light and air, says Yulia Tychino .

The basic rule for anyone wanting to furnish a small space is: The less, the better. But the room should be both functional and comfortable.

Adding light

The smaller the room, the more daylight it needs. Hence the conclusion: the best are large windows to the floor along the width of the wall. But this is ideal.

If the room cannot boast of spacious windows, hang a large mirror on the opposite side – opposite the window.

It will reflect daylight and add it to the room.

By the way, more light comes through clean glass. That's understandable.

For comparison, I can cite the fact that dirty glass blocks from 30 to 70% of sunlight, depending on the degree of contamination.

Additional lighting

It seems logical that one chandelier will be enough for a small room. But small spaces, on the contrary, require more detailed lighting.

Therefore, we complement the natural lighting concept with a large table lamp and other light sources at strategic points in the room.

For example, a floor lamp in a cozy corner, a sconce near a mirror or painting, spotlights or a tablet lamp in the center of the ceiling.

Don't overload the lamps with decorations - the simpler, the better.

Colors set the tone

Why are they so important? Firstly, colours influence mood. Secondly, with their help you can slightly increase the space and add air.

Choose no more than 2-3 colors, preferably soft, muted pastels – beige, light green, soft yellow, cream, light blue.

Perhaps the most important thing: the ceiling should be lighter than the walls.

To prevent the room from appearing too monochromatic or white, we add a bright pillow, painting or blanket on the sofa as an accent.

We are pulling out the room

Wallpaper with vertical stripes or curtains on the window can help.

The cornice is attached to the ceiling, and light transparent curtains from the ceiling to the floor visually stretch the room, making it longer.

Smart furniture selection

Our task is to find furniture that could not only perform its direct function, but also have a hidden storage space.

In addition, it should take up as little space as possible.

That's why we look for wardrobe beds, armchair beds, chests of drawers, folding tables, transforming coffee tables, tall cabinets, hanging organizers. This way we'll save space and put things out of sight.

We choose furniture on legs. When the legs lift it above the floor, additional space appears.

If we fill a room with many small pieces of furniture, it will turn into a dollhouse.

We draw attention to the elegant furniture of medium sizes.

Useful life hack: rounded corners of furniture, round pillows, round tables will add warmth and coziness to the room.
