Choosing curtains and drapes for a small apartment is not an easy task.

In a small space, it is important to use every centimeter wisely and choose window design options that will visually enlarge the room and create a feeling of light and air.

First, let's decide on the texture of the fabric. Smooth, single-color curtains made of thick fabrics are an excellent choice. They absorb minimal light and create the effect of additional volume, says Yulia Tychino .

Light translucent tulle is also suitable, especially for the kitchen and bathroom. But it is better to avoid products with a bright print, large folds, frills and tassels - all this will visually “eat up” the space.

As for color, it is important to focus on light shades.

Beige, sand, milky, soft pink add lightness and airiness. Bright and saturated tones will be oppressive.

The exception is the use of contrasting elements, for example, dark curtains in the kitchen, where light tones predominate. The main thing is a sense of proportion.

Now let's look at the styles. For small windows, light tulle curtains, Roman blinds without folds or models with a minimum number of gathers on the sides are suitable. They will visually "raise" low ceilings.

If the windows are located on the entire wall from floor to ceiling, you can use curtains up to the windowsill, and above - cornices for placing light tulle or fabric curtains. This will divide the space into parts.

For the living room, the best option is light curtains of medium length, which can be gathered using a textile tape or a cornice. A reasonable length is 10-15 cm from the floor, without touching it.

In the bedroom, you can use classic floor-length curtains, but they must be gathered and moved to the sides so as not to cover the window completely.

For safety reasons, it is better to choose short curtains in a child's room and decorate the lower part of the window with bright stickers.

Some tips on choosing cornices. In a small room, it is better to avoid massive, carved models. Give preference to laconic slats, cornices of square or rectangular cross-section.

The height of the cornice installation is also important. The higher, the more visual space.

But be careful - a curtain rod installed too high can neutralize the effect of the curtains, especially if they are short or medium length. It is optimal to place curtain rods at a distance of 15-20 cm from the ceiling.

And finally - use light translucent fabrics, light colors, simple styles and stylish minimalist cornices. Then the curtains and drapes will become an effective addition to the design, which will visually enlarge a small apartment.
