How to arrange a hallway: tips for small spaces

22.11.2024 01:40

The hallway is the calling card of any house or apartment.

After all, it is by looking at the hallway that guests form their first impression of the house as a whole.

So how to arrange it? You will find out about this now, says Yulia Tychino .

We use only light tones

When choosing finishing materials for the hallway, many people try to give preference to dark tones, citing the fact that the hallway is more susceptible to dirt than other rooms in the house, and dirt will be almost invisible on a dark surface.

On the one hand, this is true. But we should not forget that dark colors eat up space, making the room visually even smaller.

Therefore, for finishing small spaces, it is advisable to use finishing materials in light tones - this could be washable paint or washable wallpaper, for example, white, light gray and other colors.

Lighting

One of the main secrets of a good interior is well-thought-out lighting.

We use a chandelier or spotlights as the main lighting. And we use wall sconces as an additional source of lighting.

Choosing a floor covering

Ceramic floor tiles are an excellent choice for flooring in the hallway.

But here it is important to consider several points - glossy tiles are very slippery. This should be especially taken into account if there are children and elderly people living in the family.

But at the same time, such tiles are very easy to care for. Floor tiles with a ribbed surface are not slippery, so they are safer. But when choosing them, it is important to remember that they are more difficult to keep clean, since dirt will constantly clog the cavities.

Therefore, the best option for a hallway would be laminate (class 33, not lower) or high-quality linoleum.

Choosing furniture

You shouldn't choose massive furniture for small spaces, even if you have a large family.

A compact but roomy wardrobe with compartments for storing outerwear and drawers for storing shoes and other small items and accessories - hats, scarves, gloves, etc. will be quite sufficient.

For narrow spaces, it is worth giving preference to a wardrobe with sliding doors; the presence of a large full-length mirror on the wardrobe door will be a big advantage.

Also, if space allows, you can install a shoe rack and an ottoman with a bedside table. If there is not enough space, then it makes sense to buy an ottoman with a bedside table and a shoe rack - such a universal solution will allow you to save space significantly.

Visual effects

When choosing patterned wallpaper, you need to consider the following points:

  • A large pattern visually reduces the room. Therefore, it is advisable to give preference to plain wallpaper or wallpaper with a small pattern.
  • Wallpaper with horizontal stripes helps to visually expand a narrow room. With vertical stripes - visually raises low ceilings.

Thanks to our recommendations, even a small hallway can become cozy and functional.

For reference

The hallway is a part of a living space located immediately behind the entrance.
