Most housewives face the problem of a small kitchen, which is quite easy to solve using some techniques that can visually enlarge the space, while simultaneously saving space in a small kitchen.
1. The most significant space savings in the kitchen are achieved by choosing the right furniture.
First of all, you should pay attention to the cabinet doors, says Yulia Tychino .
The most suitable option for a small kitchen is a model with sliding doors. Folding tables and chairs will also save a lot of space.
When choosing cabinets, it is better to give preference to less deep models. For example, instead of a cabinet whose depth is 60 cm, you can choose 40-centimeter analogs.
Also much more convenient to use are models with pull-out shelves, with the help of which you will not have to take out all the contents of the cabinet in order to get a cup standing in the back.
2. You should decide in advance on the number of burners on the stove. Perhaps, instead of the traditional four, you can get by with two.
3. The sink is perhaps the only kitchen element on which you shouldn’t save space.
You should choose a large enough model that will accommodate many sets of dirty dishes so as not to clutter up the rest of the kitchen surfaces.
One of the most suitable options is to install a corner sink. It is quite roomy, and at the same time does not take up too much space.
4. You should also get rid of all unnecessary items in the kitchen. Try not to store food supplies, such as bags of potatoes or jars of preserves, which can be sent to the pantry or to the balcony.
Pay attention to the contents of your kitchen cabinets - there is no place for old magazines and a medicine cabinet there.
If you only use your juicer or blender every few months, you may have room for it in another room in your home, such as a pantry or loft.
5. You should weigh the pros and cons before installing a washing machine in the kitchen, because perhaps there is room for it in the bathroom. Some owners of small kitchens do not even install a refrigerator in them, allocating space for it in the hallway.
6. Kitchen rails – planks attached to the walls, on which shelves and hooks are held – save a lot of space. They can hold cutlery, jars, household chemicals and much more, significantly saving space in the cabinets. At the same time, you risk visually reducing the room.
7. As for visually increasing the space, pay attention to the lighting: the better quality and more thoughtful it is, the more spacious the kitchen will look.
There is no need for old-fashioned, bulky “grandmother’s” chandeliers; it is wiser to give preference to well-designed lamps, including spotlights.
When decorating a kitchen, you should focus on light shades, which visually increase the space.
8. A smooth, even surface of furniture will also visually enlarge the kitchen, while various architectural excesses and ornate carvings will narrow the space and make it heavy.
Translucent doors on the cabinets will give the kitchen a feeling of lightness; you can also install a table with a glass top.
By using your imagination, it is not so difficult to make even the smallest kitchen spacious.
