Cats, these graceful and independent creatures, often choose the most unexpected places to rest, and the floor is no exception.
But what makes a cat prefer a cold floor surface to a cozy cat bed or soft sofa?
Looking for a cool place
During the sweltering summer heat, a cat may lie on the floor to escape the heat and cool down a bit. This can be determined by how it stretches out to its full length.
The pet does this to keep as much contact with the floor as possible, which will allow it to cool down faster than if it were just sitting or curled up. A tiled floor is ideal for this, but any flat, cool surface will do.
Wants to bask in the sun's rays
The cat likes to feel the sun's rays on its fur, so it happily lies down on the floor.
In moderation, this is fine and healthy, but make sure your cat has plenty of clean, fresh water to avoid dehydration caused by overexposure to the sun.
Trusts
Many cats demonstrate their trust in subtle ways.
If your pet is lying on the floor with its belly exposed, this is a sure sign that it is comfortable around you and feels safe in your presence.
Give your cat some attention when she shows trust in this cute way to strengthen your relationship with her.
Hunting
Thanks to countless years of evolution, cats have finely honed hunting instincts, and this can even influence where they choose to lie down.
What appears to a human to be a random location may in fact be a tactically chosen location to observe prey or simply to identify potential threats in the area.
You can test this theory by watching your cat for a while. If she seems wary and turns her head at the slightest sound or movement, it means she is in a hunting state.
Prefers to sleep on the floor
Some cats prefer to sleep on the floor, tables, shelves, countertops, or other flat surfaces.
The man moves too much when she is lying next to him on the couch.
Some cats are less patient than others, so they prefer to lie on the floor.
If there are a lot of people or pets in the house, it is important to provide the cat with a place where it can rest.
Alternatively, you can simply move less when your cat is sitting next to you on the couch to make her feel more comfortable.
Got sick
Lying on the floor itself is not a cause for concern, but if you notice any strange or worrisome health signs, you should pay attention to them, as your cat may be suffering from an illness. Cats are reluctant to let you know when they are sick and may hide.
If your pet lies down on the floor and exhibits any of the above symptoms, it is best to take him to the vet.
