Many cat owners have probably noticed how their pets knead a person’s body, blanket or quilt with their paws.
There are 8 different reasons why they do this.
And by learning more about them, you can understand your pet’s character better.
Why does the cat trample?
A cat trampling on a person or object is called a "milk step" and it symbolizes the animal's great affection.
There are a number of reasons why a cat may act this way:
- stress, such as when a cat has experienced something like a nail trim or a trip to the vet;
- getting ready for bed;
- expression of affection, as well as checking on a person's condition;
- hunting instinct, when an animal uses its paws to check that nothing is bothering it;
- mating season, during which it is better not to disturb the pet;
- memories from childhood (it’s not for nothing that this behavior is called “milk step”).
This behavior can also be observed in males: animals mark their territory in this way.
