Guinea pigs are popular pets among Russians.
However, owners often notice that their animals do not drink or simply stop drinking water.
Let's figure out whether this is normal or not.
Reasons
An animal may refuse water for the following reasons:
- he has enough moisture, which the guinea pig receives from food (for example, when there are a lot of fresh vegetables in the diet);
- the drinking bowl is hung too high and the animal cannot reach it;
- the water supply device is faulty and the guinea pig simply cannot reach it;
- the pet is experiencing stress due to moving or a change of environment;
- Previously, the animal drank water from a bowl, which was suddenly replaced with a special drinking bowl;
- the animal is not satisfied with the smell and taste of the offered water.
If there is swelling, the guinea pig may also not feel thirsty. And this in turn indicates the presence of serious diseases in the animal, for example, urolithiasis, pneumonia or problems with the cardiovascular system.
