If you want your cat to treat you well, you need to learn to respect his boundaries.
And don't spoil the animal's mood.
Cats are often called selfish. Compared to dogs, they are really less attached to humans. It seems that they only need water, food and warmth.
Zoopsychologists claim that this is a misconception. The cat is sincerely attached to its owner, misses him if he does not see him for a long time, and can take revenge for this.
Very often, a cat’s mischief is a kind of prepared protest: “You need to communicate with me and pay more attention to me.”
A pet may be offended in the following cases. Some seemingly harmless actions of the owner can greatly frighten the pet.
Deprived of personal space
The animal swept the glass away with its tail, and it fell and broke. By climbing onto shelves, the microwave, and the TV, the cat lets you know that it is not comfortable on the floor.
Think about why the animal on the floor is restless? Perhaps a second pet has recently appeared in your home? Or are small children squeezing it too much?
Therefore, the animal wants to climb somewhere higher and further away from the offenders. And the objects end up on the floor, because the cat needs space to settle down comfortably.
Stopped playing with your pet
When a cat is left alone for a long time, it begins to miss its owner. To prevent this from happening, it needs a toy.
Cats need to play by nature. Their natural cycle is alternating short periods of activity with long periods of rest to recuperate. To prevent your pet from damaging your things, it should have its own toys.
Toys should be safe, so that they do not have small parts that the pet can chew off and swallow. The material should be durable.
Light toys made of soft material are also suitable for a kitten, preferably without bells and rustling filler, as they may frighten the kitten. An older cat may like sound elements.
Cats are hunters, they like to chase with their paw, throw and hunt. These are mice, bows and balls.
1. A good and inexpensive toy is a surprise box. Close the box with a lid, cut 3-4 holes in the lid so that 3-4 table tennis balls fit in them and that's it. The pet will chase these balls, trying to catch them.
2. A "fishing rod" with a toy attached to a string is suitable for playing with the owner. These can be feathers or bows, something bright and eye-catching. Just don't use foil or tinsel: they are dangerous for the animal.
3. All cats like boxes. They sleep in them, hide in them, climb in and out. And so on several times.
Playing together strengthens the bond between the owner and the animal. In addition, active pastime improves the health of the pet: it reduces the level of cholesterol in the blood, blood pressure and anxiety.
Did your cat bite or scratch you while playing? Don't yell at it or use physical force.
This will only scare the pet away and it will not understand the reason for the owner's displeasure. You need to spray the animal with water from a spray bottle. Do this every time the animal misbehaves.
Buying a suit
Funny costumes for cats were invented for the amusement of their owners. You think that your pet looks funny in an elf outfit, but at this time your pet is experiencing stress.
He is uncomfortable in this costume, he cannot move freely, and he tries to get rid of the outfit. Is a funny photo on the Internet worth the health of a pet? Of course not.
Forgot to change the litter in the tray
When a cat refuses to use the litter box and marks the bed and shoes, it does not mean that it hates you. It is possible that the animal does not like the litter box for some reason.
For example, it is not the right size, it has very high sides, or the filler has a strong smell. Or maybe your cat is just a neat freak.
Some breeds do not want to relieve themselves in stale litter. Then the owner will have to change it after each visit of the cat to the tray.
Small bowl
Sometimes the cat takes food out of the bowl and eats it nearby, on the floor. Probably, the bowl is too small for his muzzle, and the whiskers do not fit in it. You will have to buy another bowl, wider.
Sometimes a cat, to the horror of its owners, brings a dead mouse to their bed or table. This is not out of spite. The pet simply thinks that its owners cannot get food for themselves and is trying to feed them.
Earlier we wrote about why a cat growls while eating.
