The step-by-step method of taming a budgerigar will require a certain amount of patience and persistence from you.
Your efforts will be justified. After all, soon the parrot will stop being afraid and will happily sit on your hand.
How to train a parrot to be handled
At the first stage, practice a simple "hand in the cage" technique. Your task is to simply keep your hand in the cage from time to time and not remove it.
The bird will immediately be afraid and may attack, but you must show your pet that the hand is not its enemy and also lives in a cage. If after the attack you remove your hand, the parrot will remember this and will attack the hand every time.
The next step is feeding. Offer your parrot food from your hand regularly. This will help the parrot understand that your hand is not a threat to it.
Now you need to move on to the next stage, when you can put your finger under the parrot's belly. The bird will have no choice but to jump on your finger.
Finally, praise the bird and please it with "scratches". Gently and slowly scratch your parrot with your finger, letting it know that your hand is safe for it.
