Keeping even such unpretentious reptiles as turtles at home can be difficult.
It is important to know what foods can be fed to animals and what foods are strictly prohibited.
What you shouldn't feed turtles
The list of products that are poisonous to turtles includes any human food.
In particular, the gastrointestinal tract of reptiles is not able to digest porridge, soups, milk, cottage cheese and any fried or boiled dishes.
It is also absolutely unacceptable to feed a turtle with food intended for warm-blooded animals. That is, they should never be given canned food for cats and dogs.
Contraindicated for turtles are citrus skin, seeds and berries, as well as some types of plants:
- nightshade;
- buttercups;
- medicinal, containing alkaloids, etc.
Also note that aquatic turtles cannot be fed the same food as land turtles. This means that meat and fish are contraindicated for these animals, as they create additional stress on the kidneys.
