When a cat starts using places that are not quite suitable for this purpose instead of a litter box, the owners think that the animal is taking revenge on them for something. But this is not so.

There can be a huge number of reasons for such behavior of a pet.

Animal disease

It is precisely health problems that can push a cat to such actions.
Diseases may be the following:
- bladder infections. They provoke irritation of the ureter and the animal experiences frequent and uncontrollable urge to urinate. A symptom of such a disease may be the appearance of blood;
- crystallurgy. In simple terms, this can be explained as follows: crystals in the liquid damage the mucous membrane of the bladder. As a result, the pet often urinates.

The cause of the disease can be nutrition, lack of water or genetic characteristics of the body;
- kidney stones. Just like other diseases, they irritate the mucous membrane and the cat feels the urge to urinate more often than usual;
- arthritis. If the animal experiences pain in the joints, it may be difficult for it to get into the tray, especially if it has fairly high sides;
- stress. In other words, idiopathic cystitis. This occurs when the cat is stressed.
To understand or exclude the cause of the disease, it is necessary to consult a veterinarian.

The cat doesn't like the litter box

Often, a pet refuses to defecate in the designated place if it is not satisfied with the litter box.
The reasons may be the following:
- untimely replacement of filler;
- the tray is narrow or small and the cat cannot comfortably settle there;
- the tray is located near the device that makes noise;
- the cat doesn't like the filler.

The animal is still too small.

Sometimes he just doesn't have time to run to the toilet. If you understand that this is the reason, then you can carry the kitten to the toilet when he starts looking for a place to pee.

After doing the right thing, you can reward him. Give the cat a treat if he has completed the task.

The animal marks its territory. A sign of this will be the appearance of urine on vertical surfaces.
How to cope

If the doctor has confirmed the animal’s illness, the following measures must be taken:

- wash the area where your pet has defecated thoroughly;
- treat this area with a special product that eliminates strong odors;
- after all manipulations, treat this place with citrus essential oil. Cats do not like such aromas and will avoid this place.

In addition, you need to purchase a litter box that your animal will like.
