How to quickly train a kitten to use a litter box

One pet understands everything the first time, while with another you will have to be patient.

Animals purchased from a nursery or breeder at the age of more than two months are usually vaccinated and already potty trained.

But if they appeared in the house before the age of two months, were given as a gift or found on the street, then you need to teach them to go to the toilet as quickly as possible.

Selecting a tray and filler

The tray must be new and each animal has its own. If the kitten is still small, the sides of the tray should not be too high.

It is better to choose the same filler as the breeders. You can take a handful of the used substance with you in a bag to make it easier for the kitten to get used to the new conditions.

The filler should be high-quality and safe, preference should be given to wood and clay-based clumping fillers. It is better to wash the cat toilet with soda, soap or detergent without a strong smell. Cats have a very developed sense of smell.

This usually happens after eating or sleeping, so after the kitten eats, you need to watch it. As soon as it starts looking for a convenient place to defecate, you should carefully put it in the pot.

You can rustle the wood filler, imitating the cat burying its feces. After the successful completion of the "operation" the pet should be praised and given a treat. It is better not to let the animal out of one room in the whole apartment until it learns to go to the right container.

What to do if the cat is an adult

If the cat is already an adult and for some reason ignores the tray, it makes sense to try changing the filler. You can temporarily put the cat toilet where the whiskered friend goes, gradually moving it to the place needed by the owners. Wipe the puddle with a napkin and put paper in the tray.

The corner where the animal left its marks should be treated:
1. With lemon juice.
2. With vinegar.
3. Hydrogen peroxide.
4. With laundry soap.
5. Alcohol.

Ammonia and chlorine-containing products should not be used.
