Decorative rats are fairly clean rodents.

However, they should still be given water treatments from time to time.

However, when bathing rats, it is worth following some important rules.

It is necessary to take into account the fact that rats do not like to bathe, and this process can be stressful for them.

As a result, they can behave quite aggressively, biting and scratching.

Therefore, water procedures should be carried out with caution.

When to bathe

The pet needs to be bathed if its fur becomes dirty.

In addition, another reason for bathing may be the appearance of an unpleasant odor.

It is also necessary to take into account that old rats are less attentive to hygiene. Therefore, they need to arrange water procedures more often.

How to bathe properly

You need to bathe the rat in a small container with warm water.

It is also important that the room is warm enough and there are no drafts.

You need to add enough water so that your pet can stand on its paws without any problems.

In addition, you need to ensure that water does not get into the rodent’s ears and eyes.

You need to wash the rat carefully and without sudden movements. It is advisable to give it time to get used to it a little after immersing it in water.

For bathing you should use only special shampoo and a soft sponge.

Moreover, all actions must be careful so as not to injure the rodent’s skin.

Then the fur should be wiped with a towel and the pet should be wrapped in a dry cloth for about 20 minutes.

If the rodent is not afraid of loud sounds, its fur can be dried with a hair dryer, but you need to keep it at a distance, having previously set a low temperature.
