With the arrival of stable warm weather, blood-sucking mosquitoes have returned.
These insects can cause problems not only for people, but also for dogs.
Mosquitoes can infect dogs with dirofilariasis, a disease caused by parasitic worms. The Moscow Agency reports details, citing RKF President Vladimir Golubev.
It is noted that the symptoms of this disease are shortness of breath, lethargy, loss of activity. However, in some cases the disease may be asymptomatic.
According to Golubev, if unpleasant symptoms occur, it is better to immediately contact a specialist who will examine the pet and give important recommendations.
He noted that in addition to dirofilariasis, mosquitoes can cause allergies in pets. Its symptoms are reddening of the skin, swelling and constant scratching of the bitten area.
To prevent unpleasant situations, the specialist advises owners to purchase special mosquito drops or sprays for their dogs. It is important that the products are intended for animals, not humans.
It is added that mosquitoes are active in places where there is standing water, so it is not recommended to walk there.
