The Achatina snail is an unusual pet that is distinguished by its unpretentiousness.
But still, before you get one at home, you should find out what minimum set of things you will need for this.
What does Achatina need?
If you decide to get a giant snail, you will need:
- terrarium;
- substrate;
- containers for food and water;
- thermometer;
- spray;
- specialized food and food additives (cuttlefish skeleton, natural chalk, etc.).
The snail's house should be spacious enough (at least 10-15 liters) and have a lid.
It is recommended to use sphagnum moss and coconut substrate as soil. Keep in mind that it should be constantly moist, therefore, you will have to moisten the soil several times a day.
Snails are unpretentious in food; vegetables, fruits and fresh herbs are enough for them.
However, for the strength of the shell, Achatina needs calcium, so you will need to give the snail a cuttlefish skeleton or natural chalk.
