Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill commented on the position of the Russian Orthodox Church on the issue of the death penalty.
He explained that the Holy Scriptures do not condemn the death penalty.
The Russian Orthodox Church, according to the patriarch, has never condemned her in the case of legal grounds, TASS writes.
He also said the church has never supported the use of the death penalty.
The Patriarch said that this issue should be dealt with by those who determine the measure of punishment under the law.
The Patriarch emphasized that the death penalty is an extreme measure for a brutal crime.
At the same time, the patriarch says: “The Lord Jesus Christ did not condemn the death penalty.”
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church called on people not to commit such crimes, which would result in the death penalty.
