The main words of the outgoing 2024 have been announced in Russia
In Russia, the results of the outgoing year were summed up based on the most popular words.
The palm of primacy went to the foreign word “vibe”, which is now used everywhere.
This is the conclusion reached by experts from the Gramota.ru service, who shared their results in a new publication.
A vibe is a certain atmosphere or a situation that causes it.
It is noted that this word first appeared in the lexicon of Russian citizens several years ago. However, it was in 2024 that it went beyond youth slang and began to be used everywhere.
A total of 11 candidate words took part in the voting, and were ultimately voted for by philology experts.
The Internet meme “skuf” launched by Dvach user Alexey Skufyin and “prilet” (an airdrop) — a term that became popular 10 years ago and denotes a hit by a shell or mine — competed for the palm of victory with the vibe.
As a result, the points were distributed as follows:
- Vibe received 256 points;
- skuf - 229;
- arrival - 124.
