The Russian government has received a proposal to adopt a law on “foreign” citizenship.
However, the Cabinet rejected this bill.
The corresponding review was received by the RIA Novosti agency.
It is noted that this document proposed a simplified system for submitting documents for obtaining Russian citizenship.
In particular, it was proposed to introduce concessions for those who had previously renounced Russian citizenship. The bill assumed filing an application for citizenship without fulfilling the mandatory condition of residing in the Russian Federation.
However, the government did not support this initiative, as it considered the justification for preferential acquisition of citizenship to be insufficient.
The Cabinet also noted that people who have renounced Russian citizenship are subject to legal uncertainty, since it is unknown whether they have renounced citizenship previously or are in the process of renouncement.
The proposal proposed by the authors of the initiative also does not take into account such a constitutional feature of citizenship as a stable connection of a person who intends to obtain Russian citizenship.
