Deputy Mikhail Sheremet intends to promote the initiative to lift the moratorium on the death penalty.

A member of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption spoke about the situation with the decision, which is supported by the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, but not approved by the Constitutional Court (CC).

In a conversation with NEWS.ru, Sheremet said that he will continue to seek a decision to lift the moratorium on the death penalty for terrorists.

The MP said that he had twice sent a request to the Constitutional Court to consider lifting the ban. According to the MP, he had only received "vague wording" in response.

Sheremet emphasized that he would send a new parliamentary inquiry. He believes that this measure would not be superfluous in relation to persons who have committed serious crimes against Russians and the country.

The deputy added that the Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov also advocates tougher punishment.

The parliamentarian believes that the death penalty will be a proportionate punishment for those who have already committed this crime, and a reason to think for those who are thinking about it.
