Russia may introduce a fine of up to 500 million rubles for leaking personal data.

State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein emphasized that the bill primarily concerns leaks of biometric data.

The size of the fine will depend on the volume of the data leak, the article in the NEWS.ru publication emphasizes.

According to the deputy, in the case of major leaks the fine could be up to 500 million rubles.

For companies with a high level of information security, in the absence of aggravating circumstances, mitigating measures may be provided.

The bill also introduces liability for officials who allow data leakage. In this case, a fine of up to 2 million rubles is envisaged.

Violators who allow leaks may be subject to turnover fines of up to 3% of the company's revenue.

Khinshtein emphasized that strengthening the protection of personal data will encourage companies to increase the level of information security.
