Russian region reports 'mortality surge'

The Tatarstan Ministry of Health is trying to find the reason for the increase in mortality in early 2024.

The head of the regional department, Marcel Minnullin, does not agree that this was influenced by the post-COVID state.

During a press conference at Tatar-Inform , the head of the Ministry of Health stated that the key factor is the quality of preventive measures.

As for the post-Covid state, this is just a theory. “We don’t fully agree with it,” Minnullin emphasized.

The minister explained that the post-Covid hypothesis suggests that the chronic conditions that caused the surge in deaths in the region in early 2024 had manifested themselves earlier due to the coronavirus.

In 2023, mortality in Russia decreased by 7%. This is according to data from the Russian Ministry of Health. The agency noted that this is the best indicator since the COVID-19 pandemic.

WHO experts have previously stressed that 2.7 million Europeans die every year from 4 types of products: tobacco, highly processed foods, fossil fuels and alcohol.
